WriterconUK 2009 Midimeet
Aug. 16th, 2009 07:12 pmI'm back! And I bet most of you didn't even know I was gone. :P
On Friday I trundled off to the Ramada Hotel in Coventry for my first ever WriterconUK Midimeet. Of the 25 other attendees, I had met precisely one before:
kitty_poker1, so it was a weekend of dizzying memory blanks and jumbled names/nyms/IDs.
A complete(ish) list of attendees can be found here, as I am really not up to that amount of coding right now. *g*
There were talks and presentations a-plenty, and I got to pretend I knew what I was on about by giving a talk on (my opinion on) how best to moderate communities. It was both terrifying and thrilling. And apparently also educational. (Yay me!)
I had my first ever Thai food on friday night and will now pine piteously because there is no Thai restaurant in my town and that makes me saaaaaaaad. :(
The program of events for the weekend can be found here. With any luck, people will be making posts in
writerconuk reiterating their presentations and talks for anyone who might be interested.
Feel free to link me to anything interesting I might miss in my mad scroll through flistdom.
Roll on WriterconUK Midmeet 2010!
*smooches to you all*

on 2009-08-16 06:34 pm (UTC)I'll be so much nicer to comm mods from now on. It's not just a matter of clicking on 'create community' and waiting for them To Come. Eek!
How are you still awake? And
The programme really worked out to be well-balanced and highly entertaining as well as educational. Who knew? It wasn't quite stick in a pin...
Roll on WriterconUK Midimeet 2010 indeed! Same place, similar time. *g*

Tagging isn't so scary. repetitive yes, once you have your tag scheme in place, but once it's done, it' easy enough to keep up. ;)
I had over 5 hours sleep! That's more than I usually have when I need to be in work for noon on a Sunday, so our 3am goodnights didn't faze me at all. :P
The program was very well-balanced and educational/entertaining. I'm just very glad my pin got stuck in an afternoon slot. Trying to sound competent in the am would have been just too hard.

on 2009-08-16 07:01 pm (UTC)I has missed you lots.
You must read: http://arch-schatten.livejournal.com/111471.html Excellent Damian characterisation. Perfect for getting a grip for fic-writing purps.
Also, I have been d/l. I went a bit mad. Will email you about it tomorrow when you're more recovered from all the fun.
~smoochies~

on 2009-08-16 07:44 pm (UTC)He also dangled Deadshot and Catman under my nose, and Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. Which was sneaky and underhanded and should be commended.
Wanna mod me up at
I don't want him feeling neglected. :P

on 2009-08-16 07:55 pm (UTC)Mine was due out at 2:12, via Cheltenham Spa, and Booster's was due out about 1:15, also via Cheltenham Spa, so I jumped on that one and we gabbed all the way to CS and then I jumped off and bopped away to my MP3 player until the 2:12-as-was rolled in. LOL!

on 2009-08-16 08:21 pm (UTC)He's a lot of fun, and interesting! I really like him and he has some ace icons.
Another guy or two would be cool, but we've got Booster and S2C to supply some testosterone.

on 2009-08-17 03:00 pm (UTC)Lacey McBain's Comrades In Arms (http://www.stickymanpress.mediawood.net/comradesinarms.html), the first BatFlash I read.
BatFlash fics by Te (http://teland.com/brucewallypair.html)
Trespass not on his solitude (http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/shrift/trespassnot.html) by Shrift
Count the Days (http://frigglesch.livejournal.com/645.html) by
And that about covers the high points of the BatFlash fic collection. For now. Oh! And then there's the stuff I've written, which can be found under my dcu:bruce/wally fic tag (http://darkhavens.livejournal.com/tag/dcu:bruce/wally). /shameless pimp. :D

Catman! YIS! OMG, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (as in Ted not Jamie) are so doing it! I always make sure my statues of them stand next to each other in faithful belief of this ~g~

~blushes~ Whoops! You're all modded up. I was thinking of asking but then I didn't want you to feel pressured into saying yes ~whistles~
Right, I'm gonna email you now, but feel free not to reply until you're all rested.

on 2009-08-17 02:33 pm (UTC)Ha! I do the exact same thing, from the other end of the clock. I try to dial my bodyclock back an hour or two a day for a few days before going off to visit with diurnal types. Then it slowly dials itself back down to the vampire setting. :P
