Naked people everywhere!
Oct. 15th, 2008 11:36 pmAs some of you know, I work retail in a tiny convenience store in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, Devon, England. Wednesday nights are the bane of my week because they are, as a rule, OMG-kill-me-now boring. B.O.R.I.N.G. And from 5pm to 8pm, today followed that pattern faithfully.
And then the football (soccer) team came in, wanting to buy candy. All young, all buff, all rather pretty. And all of them stark bollock naked. I kid you not.
They were all polite, some shyer than others, (However could I tell? ;) and one of them even apologised, at which point I told him I'd seen weirder things in the shop. He laughed.
I'm still grinning.
(But I am going to be so disappointed if they don't turn up again next Wednesday. *g*)

Late last night/early this morning,
literati, my personal code monkey bestest friend, ♥♥♥, tweaked the code for my journal layout to add a taglist in my sidebar, and also to make my tags appear in a heirarchical form on my tag page. (How to.)
Wassat, I hear you thinking? It's this - isn't it nifty? But of course, that only works if you have your tags organised, and I... didn't. So, I went through my tags and renamed them into something that would look pretty when the code went live. (Heads-up to anyone who had any particular tags bookmarked or linked.)
Then I figured that there might be some improperly or incompletely tagged posts in my journal, so I went back to the beginning and started checking, post by post by post.
24 hours later, I have added over 70 formerly untagged older drabbles and drabblesets (some over 2000 words!) to my btvs:s/x:misc tag (and if I have to explain that acronym, you don't know me at all. *g*)
Lesson for the day: Sometimes, a touch of OCD can be a good thing. :D
BT Update: They're still a$$hats, but finally, after 24 hours or so, the illegal, immoral cookies from hell stopped appearing and messing up my ability to browse. There is still some lag time between my clicking a link or typing in an url and hitting 'go' and actually having the page start to load, so I may still be being rerouted through the Webwise servers, but BT haven't contacted me at all to discuss the matter, despite promises of <24hr responses to my emails. I'm still looking for a new ISP. And I will be complaining to someone further up the foodchain.

Horbling-bound!
Oct. 3rd, 2008 08:26 amIt's that time again! Ten mad cows in a farmhouse filled with fabulous food and copious amounts of alcohol. I'll miss you all, don't break LJ or the internets while I'm gone, and I'll be back on Monday night, exhausted, pickled from the inside out and twitchy from lack of internet access.

One Million Page Loads, Kiddies! WOOHOO!
Jun. 11th, 2008 03:01 pmSince the counter was installed on
bloodclaim's main page on 19th of May, 2004, the comm has racked up an impressive one million page loads.
There are no words for the joy and squee-osity this engenders in me.
Thank you to everyone who has joined me in my sandpit, for making the comm such a huge success!

Still alive + List! + Entertain me!
Mar. 30th, 2008 09:20 pm1. I'm still not dead!
2. I'm also still meaning to post the pictures I took of the London Eye when I was there with Kitty. I will. I promise. Soon...
3. Work today sucked. How come all the idiots with the dumb questions turn upon my shift? Today's prize-winning idiot walked all the way round our (very small) store and then came up to ask me if we sell Swing Tennis sets. For those of you not in the know, that's a 6ft tall metal pole attached to a tennis ball by a long piece of string. Hardly something we'd keep under the counter out of sight. *headdesk* The answer, btw, was a very polite "...No."
4. I am currently eating frozen raspberries. Yum!
Now, on to the 'entertain me' portion of the post. I have spent the last couple of days pondering on what my favourite characters would list as their top 5 (or 3 or 7 or 20 etc) movies. (Yes, I have been that bored.) Anyway, I want to know what you think John Sheppard would list, or Rodney McKay, or Xander, or Spike, or The Mayor, or Lorne, etc etc.
This is open to any character in any fandom! You can justify your choices - or not. Think Xander's #3 favourite movie is Y Tu Mama Tambien but don't want to say why? Go right ahead!
I did write up a list of Xander's five favourite movies but then I decided that, hey, expanded to twenty, with Xander-voiced justification (and maybe an aside or two from Spike), this would be perfect for one of my posting days at
spring_with_xan, so stay tuned for more on this subject soon! Then I started on a Rodney McKay list and it got ficcy, so... I have no lists to share right now. Give me yours instead!

We drank, we porned, we Horbled
Dec. 10th, 2007 10:21 pmHorbling IV was a resounding success! There was much fine food, good company, new fic, and copious amounts of booze. Together we managed to traumatise one waiter, terrify one chef, repeatedly abuse one caped monkey and several anatomically correct knitted men, and communicate in multiple fandoms with only minor disorientation and repeated 'Who did what? I don't know him, what does he look like? Ooh, nice! Carry on!'s.
I am going to try and tackle my monster flist, but feel free to link me to the good stuff in comments so I don't miss it all. :D

proof that youtube has clips of EVERYTHING
Dec. 6th, 2007 03:19 amOn Friday morning I shall be making my annual pilgrimage to Horbling, a tiny town in the wilds of Lincolnshire, where I and
anyasbuttmonkey,
esmerelda_t,
vic_amy_z,
bouncymonkey,
eatenbyweasels,
lonelybrit,
madders,
princess_s,
vampirefever, and
gingerpig will revel in three days of fine food, copious amounts of booze, various fandoms, bad porn, good fic and lots and lots of fun.
Out of curiosity, I googled Horbling to see if there were any pretty pictures I could share, but a Youtube link caught my eye instead.
( embedded link inside, plus coded link for those, like me, for whom embeds do not work )
The clip is entitled 'HORBLING to BILLINGBOROUGH' and it means what it says. Horbling lasts for about 38 seconds, and the remaining minute and a half is the journey to the centre of Billingborough.
Horbling is a tiny, tiny, very pretty town! :D

So, for the last few days my computer has been making funky noises, and I, coward that I am, have been hoping they'll go away... like they did last time. And today they went away! Yay! Only... not.
Through the medium of the laying on of hands (literally), I have discovered that one of the fans has died - there are/were two. So, for the first time in my life, I have opened up my computer and peeked inside - and it is skeery. And omg!everso!dusty!
I've left the side off the computer to allow air to circle freely while I am online over the weekend, and on Monday I will take my tale of woe to the local computer nerd shop down the road. (I've also turned off the central heating (which may have been a factor) and opened one of the windows wide to make sure the room is nice and cool. (Cold! Dammit where did I put my fluffy slippers?!)
So... Advice? Petting? (I freak at installing software or simple plug-and-play hardware, so actually opening the case and seeing my computer guts? MAAAAAJOR freaking going on here right now.) Did I do the right thing opening it up/leaving it open? Should I shut it off immediately and go bang my head against the wall until it's Monday?
And dear gods, the live and very very loud thrash metal concert going on in the town hall directly opposite my now wide open window is not exactly providing me with a stress-freee atmosphere of calm. It is, however, vibrating my floorboards. o.O
*wibbles*
ETA: After the bazzionth reboot, the fan seems to have been resurrected, a bit. it's sluggish, but the metal box it's sitting in, inside the main body of the computer innards, is not hot to the touch now.
Of course, I'll be touching regularly and definitely turning it off to cool down if/when it does get hot again, but *clings* I'm here for now. And I will definitely be going to visit the neighbourhood geeks on Monday.

why I am still smiling
Aug. 25th, 2007 12:19 amI have just spent 6 hours (5pm-11pm) restocking shelves and being polite to the locals and grockles (tourists) on this, the unofficial first day of August Bank Holiday Weekend Hell.
Today I have been called Maid, Darlin', Love, Sweetheart, Pet, Hon, Miss, my real name (by complete strangers who read it off my left tit), Babe, Chuck and Trouble, and I've kept on smiling.
I have mopped up spilled milk, spilled wine and spilled tears, and I've kept on smiling.
I have spent 20 minutes trying to balance a till that insisted on being £30 down, even knowing that I will not be blamed for the shortage as the damn thing had been in use since 7am, through three shifts and hasn't been cashed up once. And through it all I kept on smiling.
I have been violently assaulted by a spring-loaded freezer door, and can still feel the raised welt on my shoulder now, four hours later. And yet I'm still smiling.
Why?
Because we have Ben and Jerry's on offer - £2.99 for half a litre tub, or £5 for two. So I'm sitting here with B&J's Bohemian Raspberry and a chilled bottle of Jacques Fruit de Bois cider. And in my freezer sits a tub each of Fossil Fuel, Cherry Garcia and Phish Food.
And there is fresh porn on my flist!
Life is good. *hugs you all*

superkinkfest has a lot of lovely Supernatural kink prompts going begging (rules || prompt list), and
rounds_of_kink is asking for prompts in a good selection of fandoms here. Go and add some kinky idea to the ones already there!

I has a mood theme!
Apr. 30th, 2007 04:58 amYes, after more than two years of nagging,
literati finally got me to finish selecting images for a custom mood theme.
When I started pic-picking, it was purely Spander, and I'd almost got them all when I got hooked on SGA, and then I had to split the moods equally so none of the boys got slighted. I'd just about finished choosing again when Supernatural happened and I had to add the Winchester boys into the mix, with an equal share, of course. *g*
Mix in a healthy dose of procrastination and... it took a while.
But I did it! Well,
literati did the real hard work, transforming my chosen images into perfect little moods and then taking me through the whole mood theme creation process, step by step.
Yay, moodtheme!
I ♥
literati
P.S. That whole drabble-a-day thing suffered from parental oversight problems but will be returning tomorrow. *crosses toes*

Good news: Mommie Dearest is arriving on Saturday for a 10 day visit - yay!
Bad news: My fridge freezer just died. Or, more accurately, I just found out that my fridge freezer died. Dammit. Too late to salvage much of anything. :/
The landlord has been informed and has contacted an electrician, but I'm not hopeful for the thing's chances. There's smoke residue on the wall behind it. That can't be good.
'So how's the writing going?' I hear you ask. 'Um, yeah,' I answer. 'Can I get back to you on that?'
I'm still trying - that has to count for something right? Right?

Mar. 19th, 2007 05:12 amSo, it's been a while since I posted. A month, actually, which is longer than I thought. The reasons are pretty simple to explain - I haven't been writing. Quite honestly, I haven't been able to string more than three sentences together, and while I could probably have drawn those three out into a drabble, I've been trying to get my longfic back.
( Where oh where did the longfic go? )
Anyhoo, in a fit of craziness (and egged on shamelessly by
tabaqui) I signed up for
spn_j2_bigbang which has a 20,000 word minimum limit, and has to be finished (at least in rough draft) by May 1st.
I signed up on the 27th of January. Today I wrote my first 906 words and it flowed. It was also the opening 'scene' of my fic. It will no doubt be tweaked and rejigged a dozen times before I'm done, but for now I squee because I wrote stuff! And it doesn't suck! (Thank you for the positive affirmations,
kitty_poker1 and
literati *smooch*)
( Two sentence sample quote of upcoming Supernatural long(ish)fic )
I also want to take a moment to thank everyone who sent me birthday wishes, and everyone who has friended me recently (and not-so-recently and, in fact, at all! thank you!) and to reassure you that I'm still into Spander, and Wincest and McShep and I wrote stuff! And it doesn't suck! YAY! *kermit flail* :D

Dear Santa,
I won't be writing you a thank you letter this year as I know damn well I didn't ask for a huge dose of panic-induced adrenalin.
No love, me.
Dear everyone (who is not B) who works in the florist's shop above which I live,
Please to be making sure that when you lock up the shop, you don't put the security catch on the back door. It may be the shop's back door but it's also my front door and when I get home on Christmas Eve after 6 hours of wearing a flashing hat and being polite to idiots, I would like to actually get into the damn building before my frozen peas thaw.
Even less love, me.
Dear screwups who compiled the latest Telephone Directory,
Thank you for ignoring B's instructions to not include his home number in your latest edition. You are indeed worthy of the BT name.
With grudging love, me.
Dear Billy,
Thank you for being home, for being sober, for coming out into the cold and letting me in through the shop and apologising and for promising to find out who locked me out (again!).
Much love, me.

ETA: RIP Charlie Drake. Goodbye, my darlin'.
