I just migrated from my old computer to a new one - and from Windows Me to Windows XP Home. Headache is not the word for what is going on behind my eyes right now. Really.

My stomach is still doing backflips cos I've been at this for 6 hours and I'm still not done. But I'm online and logged in and thank f*ck for that!

Oh, and I forgot to copy the email that was in my inboxes so I'm not ignoring you, honestly, if you emailed me in the last couple of days and I haven't got back to you. Oops.

This computer is LOUD! And that's without me actually having figured out how to get sound yet. Fans like a jet engine, I swear!

I was totally freaked. I'd just managed to get online and nothing had been set up and I just needed to cling. And nobody was there!!!!!!

Ah, the sheer blinding terror. Not helped by the fact that there are two places to plug monitors in and I plugged in, booted up and... nothing. the monitor came on - it went off. I unplugged, cleaned, replugged. Nothing. Then I remembered the second socket and... *faints from relief*

But I am here. And with sound! And a TV picture but... no sound. Odd. And it can wait.

See? This is me! I kill stuff! But it's me or... no new stuff. Which is why I always panic and hyperventilate just adding new software and O.M.G! the amount of software i've had to add today has me trembling and praying every time I've had to reboot. I need a handy geek. I keep losing mine.

Terrifying stuff. And I could kick myself for leaving those emails on the dead vox in the corner. There was feedback in there! *sniffles*

On the other hand I managed to transfer my MS address book (with absolutely no help from MS - jackasses!) and Organiser files and browser stuff and figure out where to put them in the bajillion different identical folders that XP apparently needs to confuse me with.

And I have TV! Well, fuzzy pictures of the 4 channels I can get in this burg, but, even though I've got the computer sound working, there's no sound on the tv. It can wait. I have Atlantis eps to watch! :D

I know. I avoided Stargate because I don't really watch TV anymore, but I can't avoid HP. My kids watch the movies, I read the books, I fall asleep and dream of Fred/George sex when listening to the books on tape. This is bad. I've been avoiding it for so long, fighting it for all I'm worth...

I know how miserable changing computers or reinstalling an OS can be. Often there are some losses, always there is the pesky business of setting back up the environment you're accustomed to.

Best of luck to you in your transition, and here's hoping (once it's been properly tamed!) you get much enjoyment from your new computer!

This is the first time I've ever done this, and flying solo too! Absolutely terrified me. I think I'm going to have to set the old baby back up again with the old monitor and kb just to rescue the last few bits and pieces. I need those emails!

I don't think I'll ever get the environment back, but I'm sure I'll get used to the new way of things eventually.

I finally figured out all my connections, I think. I now have picture *and* sound from my TV card so I finally have TV again after 4 barren months. And i'm wondering if there was always this much crap on and I just didn't notice. *g*

The slash was the first stuff put onto the new machine. My fic, then my folders of saved Spander and McShep, along with all the saved caps and piccies. Then the rest of the gay porn was added. *g*
