5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

20 minutes ago, [livejournal.com profile] madders sent me a recipe for 5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake. Now I'm sitting here eating chocolate cake and telling you all about it, because really? It's Chocolate! Cake! In Five Minutes! What's not to love?

4 tablespoons flour (self-raising/rising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional, I had none to hand so did without)
a small splash of good vanilla
1 large coffee mug (I used a pint mug)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (optional) and vanilla, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes on high.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

I cheated a little and used a second mug so that I could beat the egg, milk, oil and vanilla together before adding it to the dry ingredients, but that's just because I'm lazy. *g*

In conclusion: OM NOM NOM!

Oooooooo I saved it. Don't actually have some of the ingredients. Which is a really good thing! :D

I've just recently been bit by the baking/cooking bug. After over 35 years of blissful can-opening and microwaving, and freezer-to-oven dinners, I suddenly want to make things from actual ingredients.

I have two types of flour and three types of sugar in my kitchen. I have bakeware and a random urge to scour the net for recipes. I keep visiting Argos and Amazon online, comparing food processors and blenders and other kitchen gadgets.

My mother bought me digital kitchen scales for Xmyth and I squeed out loud.

Maybe it's hormonal. ;)

*butts head in*

http://www.allrecipes.co.uk (or .com for the US version).

Excellent recipes of all kinds, plus you can adjust the measurements for different portion sizes... so you can change it for 1 or 2 portions instead of 4!

;o)

Ooh! Thanks. *bookmarks*

I do a lot of my hunting at Recipezaar (http://www.recipezaar.com/).

I have an Opera widget and a carefully compiled txt file to help with US-UK measurement conversions.

I do like the idea of the website scaling up/down portions for me though. Definitely worth investigating. :D

Ohhhhh *bookmarks*

I have a well-used set of US measuring cups so I don't have to worry about conversions *g*

I'm getting me some of those. They will make life so much easier. :D

Now, if only there was a list of actual ingredient conversions! In a 'I say swede, you say rutabaga', 'you say *brand name* item, I say... whuh?' *g*

I've just been talking about [livejournal.com profile] spn_betas in another journal and reminded myself that it had been a while since I did my modly duty and took a quick peek to see how good (or bad) the take-up rate is, and guess who I found volunteering in the most recent post!

*has warm fuzzy feelings*

You rock! :D

LOL thanks! But I give nods to [livejournal.com profile] kitty_poker1. She umm... hinted about *snickers* that we were not filling the vacuum her retirement left. *G* It finally made me get off my backside and volunteer.

BWAH! That was the post I'd mentioned it in! :D

Huuuuuuuuuuuugs! Subtle hint, no? *g*

Every beta improves every fandom because of the knock-on effect. No matter where we start, we expect better quality every time...and we're getting it!

Multi-fandom is so good for us all. *dances*
