Notes: Written for slashthedrabble prompt #146 - Power, and also for mini_nanowrimo, day 28. Can be read as a standalone, though in my head it is part of the baby!vamp!Xander 'verse.


To be able to snap bones like twigs and peel away skin like blood-soaked rags and still have your victim beg for your touch, your attention; to drain a body of its lifeblood while it wriggles and flops, then leave it balanced on the cusp to survive or perish while you laugh - that's what Angelus taught Spike about power.

Angelus didn't have a clue.

True power is taking a fragile human being and, in that taking, creating a demon, an equal, family - making them yours.

Having Xander in his bed, by his side, because he wants to be - that's power.

And I just wanted to add that reading all of these in one go is interesting, seeing the overarching and continuing story lines unfold, interspersed with moments of pure intimacy or pure comedy. I love Spike's attitude to Xander - tender, loving, exasperated, forgiving. And Xander's to his sire - eager, knowing, teasing, obedient.
I know it's a world of drabbles, but I would love to see a continuous story in this 'verse - with Angelus and Dru and Spike and Xander and Connor... and Giles? Meanwhile, or anyway, loved this. Thank you.
