Sometimes Xander's visions leave him wiped out and frustrated, unable to decode the things he's seen, the sounds he's heard. He does his best to feel his way through darkness and distortion, but every time he fails, he takes it personally and frets.
Spike has spent a hundred years and more looking after Dru, but nothing's ever got to him the way that Xander's sad eyes do. A flutter of long lashes and a lip-quivering pout reduces him to putty in an instant.

Angelus studied the naked, feral boy pinned beneath him as he strained and squirmed for freedom, for some leverage, a chance to pass along the pain brewing in dark eyes. He'd never been so proud.
"My son."
Connor hissed and bucked with every ounce of strength he had. Angelus rode it out with a smile.
"My perfect son. I'm betting you're as vicious as your mother used to be. Can't wait to see the demon in you."
