Thinning The Herd

"So many, Spike! Oh, so many! More than we could eat if we gorged for a year. They don't know who they are, where it came from or what to do. They have so much rage and fear and sweet confusion. So many pretty dishes all set out around the spinning globe, swirling faster and faster into the center unless we stop them. And we can stop them, Spike, one by one by one. Drain them dry before the council finds them and reels them in. It's a race to keep our future safe. A race we have to win."



Towards Extinction

"Not sure we could get them all, luv, even with Angelus' help, but surely we've got years to pick them off."

"No, we don't. And anyway, we mustn't kill them all. We have to leave enough to face the darkness. Aurelius will fall to dust as surely as the rest if they allow the First to take above from down below. I've always been afraid of clowns and this one is the worst. He'll do more than terrorise the children. His hordes will shred dimensions, let the real nasties in, unless the Slayer Queen can lead her minions to battle."



Viable Ecosystem

Maybe not this time or the next or even after that, but some day, in the future, humans might not rule the world. The demons want it back and they don't care about the likes of us, the ones who feed on human blood and live in human bodies. We're the in-betweeners, Spike, we're the shadow men. We're somewhere in the middle of the fight. Neither side can win or lose, there has to be a balance. Only we can even out the scales."

PPS: Something I just noticed while rereading "Towards Exstinction" By "The Slayer Queen" do you mean Buffy? Didn't they already kill Buffy? Or allow Angelus to do it? Am I thinking of another verse?

No, it's the right 'verse, but I'm not really writing in a linear fashion. The drabbles skip back and forward in time, so three drabbles on the same challenge might actually be years apart in the actual timeline. So, yes, the Slayer Queen really is Buffy. They let her 'save' the world before Xander kills her. *g*
