Time To Act

It hurt so much, the knowledge that she had taught Xander how to make this possible. She held herself responsible for the death of all those Finns. Each new report added a score mark to her heart, another spill of innocent blood puddled at her feet. And yet no one let her offer up her guilt.

"…Not your fault." "It's Spike!" "Xander would never…" "He wouldn't…" "You're not to blame!"

But Willow knew the truth. She'd seen Spike's possessiveness but hadn't understood. She knew how Xander needed to feel worthy of the one he loved. And she had done nothing.



Necessary Evil

"It hurts!"

Xander squirmed as his flesh sizzled and smoked, knowing from the grimace on Spike's face that he was experiencing the same agonizing burn.

"I know, luv, but it has to be done. If we don't get these glyphs in place before that flame goes out, your little witch bitch will have a chance to slap your soul back on, and I'm not letting her win after all this time!"

Spike dipped his fingers once more into the holy water and began to trace the next of the ancient sigils onto Xander's trembling shoulder. It had to be done.



No More Snakes

"It hurts, I know, but only for a moment." Dru paused in her ministrations to pet her new red doll. "Once I've pulled the snakes out of your belly they'll stop biting you."

Her hands slipped back inside the gaping cavity and tugged things free. Coils of wet intestines, slightly steaming in the chilly room, spilled across her skirts like newborn eels.

"There now, doesn't that feel better? No more bitter wormwood bile. No more trying to curse my precious boys with dirty souls."

Dru lifted up the loosely lolling head and set it on her knee.

"Such pretty hair…"
