Notes: Two technology related drabbles and one that's not really timetravel, but kinda might be somehow related if you squint - again, set in the world of baby!vamp!Xander.


Let Me Be Misunderstood

"You want to what to who?"

"I just thought we could get Seven chipped so if she got lost or stolen..."

"No bloody way! I'm not gonna let you..."

"Oh! Oh, Spike, no! I'm sorry! No, of... of course not. I... I didn't even think about... y'know... yours. It's been gone so long I've practically forgotten about it. Of course you wouldn't want another member of the family chipped."

Spike stared blankly until his mental light bulb pinged. His idiot childe thought he was protecting the evil beast? Hell, he just didn't want her returned if he ever got rid!



Maybe It's Not Time Travel, But...

Xander came down slowly from the hallucinogenic hippy he'd consumed the second Spike had turned his back. He was practically asleep when he whispered something odd that made Spike freeze, and then think long and hard.

"So pretty, all those gods and dogs and dragons in the candlelight. Will you grow your hair like that again, for me? I wish you'd picked the stake up when she dropped it, it was so ornate. I wonder if I could carve like that."

A century slipped backwards and Spike recalled the Chinese Slayer, a minutely detailed stake held in her hand. How...?



The Legend Of...

"Here. You're always moaning about being bored while I play poker. You said you'd never had one as a kid, so when I saw it..."

The shop-wrapped box was passed from hand to hand.

Spike never tired of watching Xander accept a gift. His eyes would sparkle as though lit from within by golden stars. An eager grin would stretch his mouth so wide you could count his teeth, and then he'd set to tearing off the packaging.

"Spike! This is one of the new GameBoy Advance SPs! With all the classic games and... Oh my god! It's got Zelda!"

I drabbled Xander playing with a GameBoy last week and then wondered why he'd have one of those instead of something flashier and net-connectable. I decided he never got to have one as a kid, and then when the tech challenge appeared I googled to see what classic games he might be playing, and found an article that told me they are rereleasing 8 of the classic games for the new Advance. The drabble practically wrote itself. *g*

As for Zelda... I didn't have a GameBoy either, so I really have no clue. I looked at the list of classic games available and heard Xander practically squeeing over Zelda and the decisiion was made. *g*

I love Spike's adversarial relationship with Seven! (I have all my critters chipped, except the 7 ft boa. Saving for that.)

For the tripping drabble I really wanted to have Xander see William being turned, so I put Fool For Love in my CD drive and sat and watched the scene looking for some small detail on Dru that Xander could mention and shock Spike because he knew he'd never mentioned it. I was hoping for a brooch, maybe a necklace, a ring - something distinctive, and you know what? The only jewellery Dru wears in that scene is a pair of plain looking earrings. So, then I moved on to the Chinese Slayer and watched that scene over and over again until I decided what little details Xander would recall. The stake really did look quite ornate, which made me wonder, which of course made me think of Xander and his woodworking skills...

So, I spent about an hour watching just two scenes over and over again for one 100 word drabble. Obsession, thy name is Spander. *g*
