Permanent LJ Accounts Now On Sale!

For the next week, you can now purchase a permanent LJ account for the princely sum of $150 US.

Any of you wondering about the fallout from the recent furore nicknamed "Strikethrough '07" can read here how it was all a case of misinterpretation and miscommunication. *coughbullshitcough*

Also included in that post is the following statement: listing an illegal activity in your interests list isn't a violation of the Terms of Service in isolation, and we won't equate individual interests with activities you support or advocate. Instead, we will consider journals and profiles as a whole, in context, to determine whether they violate our policies.

You can also read here that there will be no change to the TOS and policies, but that they will be enforced more rigorously (though, as before, only in response to actual complaints). Also, the post defines what content will not be deemed acceptable by 6A/LJ.

If, after plowing though that lot, you still want to buy a permanent account, please be aware that any paid time, or userpic add-on time, you have left on any account you make permanent can be transferred to another journal or community with this Permanent Account Holder Transfer Tool.

And once you've handed over your hard-earned money, you should go and join permmembers so you can be kept up-to-date on the latest goodies that LJ has to offer. (Perm/paid members usually get to play with them first.)

One interesting fact. After "Strikethrough '07", some lj members created a comm - something along the lines of fandom gives it back (lj members donating to causes like RAINN)- and digitalwave challenged LJ TPTB to bring something good out of the mess they created.
The fact that they're donating 25.00 out of every permanent account purchased in the first 2 days (I think) is a sign that they heard, even if just a little.

It's the first 36 hours, and I did consider adding that promise to the post but I figured it was long enough already and if anyone was interested in the fallout from "Strikethrough '07" they'd follow the links and read it there. (Plus, I'd feel obliged to link to all those charity sites and my html-fu is acting up. *g*)

Yeah, I just meant that it was good that they heard the fandom voice on this one, and at least something good came out of it. :)

I hope that's what it is, and not a cynical ploy to get people to hand over their money before they have a chance to think about it. *g*

Whatever happened, it's money for some good charities and that's always a positive move. :D

I was planning on buying a permanent account, but after that mess I decided to wait a little bit more. I really love LJ, but I'm still keeping my two feet behind for now.

I don't blame you for waiting. That's why I linked to the latest posts about the whole mess along with the sale itself: so people could make an informed decision.

I am a bit surprised that they didn't postpone the sale until this had blown over a little, but corporate mindsets are completely alien to me. Barak certainly seems to live on another planet, one where 'interest' is synonymous with 'like'. ;)
