Starting Out

"Are we there yet?"

"No."

Five minutes later...

"Are we there yet?"

"No!"

Three minutes later...

"Are we there yet?"

"Dammit, Spike! You're worse than a sugared-up five-year-old! We've been on the road for twenty minutes, so no, we are not there yet."

One minute later...

"Are we there yet?"

"Spike..."

Another whole minute of silence...

"It is dark yet?"

Sigh.

"Spike, I know you'd know if the sun had set. It's one of those vampire senses you're always bragging on, remember?"

Ten minutes later...

"Stop the car, Pet. It's my turn to drive. And turn those bloody cowboys off."

Speed Demon

Labour-callused fingers dig deep into battered leather upholstery, trying to hold a shaking body to a furiously vibrating seat. It's a futile attempt to resist the G-force pressure of a speed Xander daren't even try to estimate.

"Spike... Spike..." A swiftly indrawn breath. "Spiiiiiiike!"

"'Sup, Pet?"

"Could you at least pretend to be watching the road instead of looking through your tapes? I'd rather not die in a fiery pile-up because you couldn't find your bootleg copy of the Pistols' last gig."

"Don't be daft, Xan. It's the last gig before Sid topped himself. And stop fidgeting; we're nearly there."

Final Destination

The drive down, both parts, was a piece of cake compared to the crossing of that last few feet of sidewalk. Eye contact was made and held. A lingering kiss was shared, and then hidden weapons were checked once more, just in case...

A nod, and then together they stepped forward, on the final leg of a journey filled with self-discovery and explanations.

Angel looked up as the hotel doors burst open and the last people in the world he ever expected to see walked in as if they owned the place.

"So, Deadboy. Gonna welcome me to the family?"

An Unexpected Detour

"I can't believe you drugged me to get me to Mexico!"

Spike shrugged.

"I knew you'd never agree. You still believed you were second best, that I'd take Dru back if she so much as crooked her finger at me. I figured the easiest way to make you understand was to let you see me tell her just how much I love you. And it worked. I saw that dopey grin you tried to hide behind your hand."

"Well, yeah, but..."

"Evil demon here, remember?"

"Like I could forget? So, what was that she said about our journey just beginning?"

And a quick pimp for a new, multi-fandom slash-only drabble community, [livejournal.com profile] slashthedrabble, which will be issuing it's first challenge on Thursday, running until Saturday. Come and join. The more the merrier!
