Sleeping With The Fishes
The quavering sound of Xander singing in his sleep dragged Spike out of a wonderfully porny dream.
"My daddy was under the ocean,
My daddy was under the sea.
My daddy was under the ocean,
Oh, bring back my brother to me.
Bring back, bring back,
Bring back my brother to me, to me…"
Spike sat bolt upright in bed and reached out to shake Xander's shoulder. The singing stopped.
"Huh? Wha'?"
"You were warbling in your sleep, luv. Was it Dru?"
"Uh… Dru, Darla, a pretty little kid. Why? What…?"
Spiked groaned.
"Bugger me sideways! Where the fuck's Connor?!"
After Sunset
Xander watched sun sink out of sight, painting scarlet purple orange stripes across the cloud-streaked sky. The waves reflected back the colours, rippled, blurred and bleeding out, a blue-black liquid palette for the gods.
The sand beneath his naked feet was warm and damp and gritty, tiny shards of broken seashell sharp between his toes. He grinned.
"Hey! I bet if we knew which way to go we could walk to Hawaii. Wouldn't it be cool to scare the fish?"
Spike reached out and swatted the back of his childe's head.
"Atmospheric pressure'd have us flat as bloody pancakes, luv."
