I have just spent 6 hours (5pm-11pm) restocking shelves and being polite to the locals and grockles (tourists) on this, the unofficial first day of August Bank Holiday Weekend Hell.

Today I have been called Maid, Darlin', Love, Sweetheart, Pet, Hon, Miss, my real name (by complete strangers who read it off my left tit), Babe, Chuck and Trouble, and I've kept on smiling.

I have mopped up spilled milk, spilled wine and spilled tears, and I've kept on smiling.

I have spent 20 minutes trying to balance a till that insisted on being £30 down, even knowing that I will not be blamed for the shortage as the damn thing had been in use since 7am, through three shifts and hasn't been cashed up once. And through it all I kept on smiling.

I have been violently assaulted by a spring-loaded freezer door, and can still feel the raised welt on my shoulder now, four hours later. And yet I'm still smiling.

Why?

Because we have Ben and Jerry's on offer - £2.99 for half a litre tub, or £5 for two. So I'm sitting here with B&J's Bohemian Raspberry and a chilled bottle of Jacques Fruit de Bois cider. And in my freezer sits a tub each of Fossil Fuel, Cherry Garcia and Phish Food.

And there is fresh porn on my flist!

Life is good. *hugs you all*

I feel the exact same way after working all week (in Wandsworth!), except replace "Ben & Jerry's 2 for £5" for "Crate Of Stella for £7" from the local offy. Awesome!

BTW, who did your layout? I've been itching to redo my LJ layout back to the old style but can't figure out how to put the header pic in!

We had a lot of booze on offer, (no crates of Stella though) but the B&J's offer grabbed me by the throat and wouldn't let go. And the cider is a wonderful accompaniment, mixed with concentrated juice of fruits of the forest. Icy cold and purple. :D

Wandsworth? You have my heartfelt commiserations! That Stella is well-deserved.

My layout is courtesy of the talented [livejournal.com profile] literati. She does most of my lj code for me, I just plug in the links and easy bits. *g*

Phish Food! Closely followed by Fossil Fuel!! Only Cookie Dough makes me happier. *g*

Trouble? Surely not. :p

There is Cookie Dough at work, but I restricted myself to just the four half litre tubs. *g*

Trouble is a nickname that has followed me everywhere and I can't understand why. *bats eyelashes* Here in Ashbucket, there are three customers who have independently stuck me with that name. I feel like I should get them together so they can form a 'We Love Trouble' fanclub. *g*

Enjoy your spoils of a hard night at work, but know that for a week I'll expect you to eat only from George.

Too true, if there was Half Baked B&J I'd be sorely tempted!

Is Wandsworth "well known" outside of London, then? I figured that only Londoners would know of it as the scumpit of the civilized world!

How many people ask if you work there? This is knowing you have a nametag and assuming you have to wear some kind of apron. I worked at a small bookstore from 1988 to 1995 and got asked constantly "Do you work here?". This is even with wearing an apron with the store's name on it, plus a nametag that also bore the store's name....

So sweetie *snerks*, is now the time to tell you that I actually own a t-shirt that says "Trouble Finds Me"? Also? Sooooo sooo sooo very glad I read your post after going to the grocery store. Otherwise I would have come home with ice cream.

Ice cream and porn? That's a perfect ending to even the most wretched of days.

By the way, hi! (delurking motion here. hehe) Hope you don't mind the add :)

Hope you get some well earned relaxation in tonight.

Ooh, what is this 'Half Baked' you speak of? I haven't heard of that one.

And yes, Wandsworth is well known outside of London, mostly from news reports and other horror stories. *g*

There were pieces of chocolate fudge brownie in the Bohemian Raspberry and it was gooooooood. I've never had that flavour before - it was my 'experimental' choice from the ones on offer. *g*

How many people ask if you work there?

So many people! And, up until last month, the uniforms had the Spar logo in a print form, so I was plastered with logos from neck to hip, along with my Spar name badge.

But even funnier is that occasionally, when I go into the Somerfield (the competition) across the road in uniform, people ask me if I work there too. *head desk*

Ha! That's a very appropriate t-shirt! :D

All lurkers and delurkers are welcome here! Hi!

Ice cream and porn (and booze *g*) are my drugs of choice when it comes to self-medication. And some days I need to get reeeeeeally drugged. ;)

Haagen Daaz is good too. Once upon a time I used to live for a wonderful triple choc swirly icecream they did, though the name escapes me now, but then I was introduced to B&J and they stole my heart. *g*

Enjoy!

Nope, no Choc Chip Cookie Dough. We have it at work, I just... couldn't justify buying one of each flavour we have in stock, so I had to make some hard choices. :D

Half Baked? It's Cookie Dough and Chocolate Fudge Brownie, in one... it's so lush!

OOoooh, I love your icon... ;D

That... does sound lush. *drools*

And that's another [livejournal.com profile] literati icon. About 95% of my icons are made by her, either to share, or, mostly, expecially for me. *gloats*

The cap is taken from a deleted S1 scene. Just one of several where there was naked skin on show. So unfair - except for the part where I has the deleted scenes reel. :D

You can't see clearly on the icon, but Starks' pants are open. he was actually getting dressed as he and Jack talked. *flails*

*smooches you belatedly and spams your inbox yet again* (and again!)

Thank you, darlin'!

And yes, 'Chuck' is indeed an endearment, which I thought was originally from Yorkshire. but I am a google addict, and I couldn't resist, and lo! (http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/17/messages/352.html) It was used in the time of Shakespeare! In MacBeth! And is a diminutive of chick or chicken. o.O
