John and Rodney found a room, back in the early days of the expedition, and in it were computers running what appeared to be a Sims-type game, so they kept it a secret and spent lots of their free time, for years, playing it. And then they discovered that the populations they were playing with were real and they had to go to the planet and make peace between the two warring nations that were only warring because of John and Rodney's gameplaying *g*
